Are there any poisonous effects of drinking vanilla extract?
I know that you can get drunk from drinking vanilla extract. I have some vanilla extract that is 35% alcohol. After doing some research I’ve found that the type of alcohol in vanilla extract is ethyl alcohol, the same kind in normal drinking alcohol. But I’ve also seen some people saying not to drink it because it will make you sick and because of how horrible tasting it is.
My question is: are there any actual poisonous ingredients in vanilla extract that can cause harm more so than normal alcoholic drinks would? Or can I just drink around 6 ounces of it to get buzzed and be fine in the short and long term, as long as I can deal with the bad taste?

It’s not poisionous by itself, but drinking 6 or more ounces by yourself might result in alchol poisioning.
It sounds as if you are either underage or an alcoholic. If you are either of those maybe you need AA instead of Vanilla extract. Be true to yourself.
A friend of mine and I decided once to take shots of extract…
I highly recommend against it. Or at least have a toilet or trash can nearby for vomit.
Extracts DO contain 35% alcohol, however, most also contain an additive designed to make it incredibly bitter to the taste if taken straight. Also, this same additive induced vomiting.
No, it will not do anything incredibly adverse to you, however, you will most likely throw-up, and if you don’t, you will wish that you had.
Still…. It may be worth the experience, but I can pretty much guarantee it will be a once in a lifetime kind of thing!
There are no poisonous ingredients in Vanilla Extract because it is used in cooking as a flavoring agent, but the concentration of vanillin in the extract might upset your stomach pretty bad.
It’s an expensive way to get drunk, and yes, disgusting. Why do that to yourself?
No. There are NO weird additives in vanilla extract. It’s nothing more than the product of vanilla beans that have been soaking in ethyl alcohol. It’s just that the vanilla essence is so strong that many people’s stomachs would find it disagreeable if they drink it straight up. It would be the same as if you ingested a concentrated dose of any other spice such as a handful of cloves, curry, or black pepper. All you have to do is mix the vanilla extract in with soda or any other drink to reduce the concentration of the vanilla. It goes especially well with Coca-Cola.
It won’t kill you. It’ll just make you sick to your stomach. When mixed in with other ingredients, it makes wonderful cookies and cakes and such. But, by itself, it’s really nasty. (And we still use it to soothe a baby’s gums when they’re teething. Go figure.)
