Can my daughter get arrested for bringing mace to school?

She is in a horrible school so I bought her some mace to bring, only in emergencies, of course. But for just having it on her can she get in trouble?

Yes. It’s considered a weapon and not allowed on campus or any school functions.

I hope so. If you think her school is so bad, then find a school for her that isn’t as bad.

you probably should have asked this sooner…where did you get mace?..pepper spray is probably what you got

mace contains purified teargas and chemical solvents and is NOT sold in the grocery store.

pepper spray is what you buy at the store

i don’t know about mace…

i’m sure nobody would notice a small bottle of pepperspray – one that she could put on her keychain, maybe? i mean, as long as she doesn’t go flaunting stuff around, i don’t think anybody will accuse her of having stuff.

Most states you must be 18 to posses mace. Some cities no one can. it makes no difference that it is openly sold in local stores.
Most schools ban it no matter what the age (even for teachers). If it is banned by the school they can have her arrested for bringing it in.
You say it is only for emergencies but kids show stuff to other kids. Soon everyone knows she has it.

Yes, she can get arrested if caught. The keyword is caught however, I am sure if she used it in an actual situation where needed the trouble she gets for having the mace will be nothing compared to what she defended herself from

Yes. Assuming she is in a Government School with zero tolerance.

Personally, she’s better off to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Tell her just to keep her mouth shut that she carries it. Maybe decorate it to look like hair spray, feminine spray, etc. Actually those cans can be filled with anything you like in them after they’re empty.

Most schools have a zero tolerance policy regarding weapons.
If she is caught with it, she will more then likely face expulsion and arrest.

While she may not wave it around and put it on display, there are plenty of other, legit, ways in which the school can find out about it.

Definitely not worth the risk.

In the State of California and in many other States you must have a permit to carry Mace.

I do have a permit to carry Mace, however getting a permit to carry Mace is not that easy to get.

If you are caught carrying Mace without a permit, that is a felony.

Pepper Spray works as well as Mace and it is my understanding that Pepper Spray does not require a permit to carry.

However I doubt that schools will permit students to carry Pepper Spray or any other similar type of substance.

I would check with the School and see what their rules are.

I can’t even imagine what your circumstances must be when buying your daughter a weapon is the best option you have.

What sort of a message are we sending to our children? What on earth is our world going to be like in 25 years? What will your daughter send her children to school with?

Yes BIG trouble.

I dont think BSO’s answer is entirely true, it is not considered a weapon due to the fact that it is allowed to be concealed and is hardly never used in an aggressive manner (such as attacker using it on victim), it is deffensive, this known as common knowledge. That being said in most states public schools it is not against the rules to bring pepper spray to school AS LONG AS IT IS CONCEALED AND OUT OF VIEW ON SCHOOL GROUNDS. The use of the spray on school campus is recognized as improbable, the most common place it would likely be used is on a walk from school to another destination., and this is recognized by most school districts. Your daughter will likely be fine, and if a teacher has an issue with it, it is likely it will simply be confiscated for you to pick up where you and the official can discuss the issue. Ive never, seen or heard of anyone being in serious trouble for only possessing the spray at school.
