Set before us were platters of both chocolate covered raisins and ants. The waiter asked if we could tell the difference. I must admit that I couldn’t, and neither could my date, Rosemary. Fried grasshopper was next He suggested that they might taste better if we dipped them in mayo. I replied, “Hold the mayo, but pile on the catsup.”

The waiter seemed very learned, when he advised me which of several herbs to put on my potato. I said, “Parsley, Sage. Rosemary and I will have some fresh chopped parsley sprinkled on these cooked roots.”

Over dinner, Rosemary talked of our plans for summer. Squash and winter indoor sports would be something we both wanted to try. She always did get her words mixed up, but I was a bit surprised when I heard here say that she wanted “tea and scones” in the evening. After talking a bit longer, I realized that she meant ski and tones.( Tones being short for the FineTones, a barbershop quartet that sings at the indoor Ski-orama’s cabaret.)

After dinner, the waiter brought Rosemary a glass of merlot and for me and cup of bean juice…black, no cream.
