Dealer won’t pay for oil sludge?
I have a 2004 Suzuki Verona with 59000 miles. I took it to the dealer in Aug. 2008 for a knocking noise. They changed the oil and the noise went away. Took it back in Sept 2008 for the same noise and question of a coolant leak. They said no leek they could find they tightened some bolts and the noise went away. Took it back to them Aug. 17 09 with the same noise. They said I need a new engine SLUDGE was found. This is our fault we didn’t maintain the car. I have requested to speak with the owner of the dealership and they keep saying they have spoke to him he said there is nothing he can do it is our fault. We have had all the service on it up to 45000 mile service. What is my next step? Who is responsible?

If you have followed the makers instructions in the service manual and you have evidence of compliance, the dealer is going to have a hard time blaming you for lack of care in servicing. My best bet is that they never serviced it properly.
If you have proof of all the oil changes and dated and miles each time it was changed then they will have to fix it.
Toyota engines were failing at 30-50k miles due to an oil sludge (gelling) problem about 10 years ago. Some said the engines had small oil channels that restricted oil flow and caused overheating. Toyota blamed the owners for improper maintenance. There was a class action lawsuit and Toyota provided a retroactive 8 yr 100,000 mile warranty for sludge problems. Try to contact other Suziki owners.
I think this Falls under the” Lemon Law”
In the back of Your Owners Manuel is the Name of Regional
Liason Officer:Contact Him by letter and put forth Your Problems with Dealership.make Two copies .send Him one and You keep the other;
Sounds to me like you spun a bearing or overheated it and blew the headgasket but then I can’t be sure because I guarantee there are all kinds of details you are leaving out.
Has the car overheated recently and how long did you ignore it while it was doing that?
Have you followed the recommended maintenance schedule to the letter? I see a big gap between 45k and 59k miles. Because if you have not and/or if you did overheat the motor it is your problem, not theirs.
If you didn’t keep up with the maintenance, you are responsible. However, you may still be able to recover the engine and make it drive good again if it still runs.
Try This,
Put new oil and filter in the car. Go to auto zone and buy a can of sea foam motor treatment. Dump half of the can into your oil and run the other half of the can through the intake system using there directions. Drive the car for about 500 miles and then change the oil and filter again. This should take care of your sludge problem. If it stick knocks, there’s mechanical damage.
