How come they call pickles “Dill” pickles if there is no dill in them?

I’ve read the label on the last few pickle jars
that we purchased and there is no dill or dill
seed in the ingredients.

I think that they do have dill in them if they are made right:)

I thought there was dill in them, huh.

The same reason why they’re called hot dogs even if there’s no Fido or Mitten in them.

I hope!

cause there good

If they’re called dill pickles, then there IS dill in them. Probably dill FLAVORING, if not the dill weed itself.

There are dill-the seeds and such that they are pickled in.

lol becasue its a awosme name plus because they have fill ni them…i am guessing its teh stuff in all floating around…….plus idk if they want to have “winer pickels” as a name.

There is Dill in them — dill seasoning from dill weeds!

Dill pickles do have dill in them. In commercial pickles it may simply be flavoring. Get a cookbook, look up a recipe.

There has been dill in every jar of dill pickles I have ever seen!

pickles are made in a dill brine, hence the name dill pickles.

Because that’s what they taste like.

Someone told me that it is the way they are.

probably put in it already.

There is dill in the brine.

There is dill in dill pickles. There’s no dill in cornichones , Bread and Butter and Polish pickles.

it all in the way it gets presserved…the seasoning used (brine water)

dill as compared to sweet…
like dry wine which is wet…

a different vocabulary.

Amazing isn’t it . Keep reading those labels!! You’ll be healthier.

i think that do and if they dont then its the flavor and the acid in then that makes them dillish

Most commercial pickles do NOT have dill in them. They use turmeric instead. I cannot catch a scent of dill in ANY of them I have tried. I have canned my own pickles and know dill when I smell it, if it would only be the flavoring. Also, I believe they would have to list it in the ingredients and they DON’T.
