How do i pick the basil leaves off my basil plant?
This is my first time growing basil. And when i pick the basil leaves, the stem will start to grow dark on the edge i picked it out from the next day. Is that suppose to happen? where should i cut off the basil when picking leaves? Thank You!
It still turns dark even when i do cut most of the stem off.

I usually cut off the basil, stem and all, about a 6″ piece with 6-8 leaves on it, then put it in water in the fridge and pick off leaves as I need them. The plant makes two shoots where the one stem was cut off and starts growing again.
Pinch or cut them off about a quarter inch from the base of the leaf stem. This will leave any buds in place where a new stem can grow. I’m not sure about the discoloration issue. Unless you mean the remaining stem after cutting off the leaf turns dark, in which case I wouldn’t be surprised.
No, it’s normal. I have a basil plant and I just pinch them off. Nothing bad has happened to the plant. Yet.
