How much chopped basil does one leaf make?
I have a recipe calling for 14 “large basil leaves,” but I only have chopped basil and I’d really rather not go to the store (where do they sell Basil leaves, anyway?). Anyone know how much chopped basil that would translate into? Thanks!

I would guess that one large basil leave would equal approximately 1 teaspoon of chopped basil. So, you’ll need 14 teaspoons, which is also almost 5 tablespoons.
When you say you’ve got chopped basil, is it dry (as in a spice jar) or is it fresh? If it is dried in a spice jar, it will be three times as concentrated as fresh. You always use 1/3 less dry herbs than fresh herbs.
Dried herbs are always stronger than fresh herbs. So beware. 30 leaves of fresh basil will equal 3 tblspoons of dried so I would use about 1 1/4 tblspns of dried basil in your recipe.
