The dog still has fleas in spite of your using a flea control product, because the environment is still infected with fleas. They are probably in your carpets, curtains, etc. You have to cure the whole house and yard, not just the dog. It’s a pain in the ass, but it’s the only way.

Don’t use garlic. It does nothing to the fleas. It can cause your dog to become anemic, just like onions can. And it will give your dog garlic breath. I would keep using advantage or frontline and treat your house for the fleas. Flea eggs can live in carpets for many months. An insecticide with an insect growth regulator will keep the fleas from growing into adults and reproducing.

Yes, one clove is too much. Garlic can be toxic to dogs remember. Personally I wouldn’t, but if you must, phone a vets to see what they think would be a safe amount, they can get in touch with poison control if necessary to find out.

Controlling a flea problem can be more complicated than just slapping Advantage on every month, but you started right – don’t turn to garlic! Just observe these points:
1) The Advantage MUST get on the dog’s skin, not fur
2) You always have to spray the house as well, because this is where most of the fleas are living – you may have to treat the house more than once, and don’t use anything from a pet store.
3) If you get your Advantage online, be aware of the likelihood of it not being the genuine product.
4) If you bath the dog within 48 hours before or after applying the Advantage, the Advantage won’t work.
