How much poppy seeds would you have to eat?
to actually feel anything? I keep hearing these rumors that poppy seeds contain opium, but if that is true then how do they get away with putting it on bagels and bread? Is it weakened with toasting or would you have to consume alot of it or what?

I don’t think so. But I did hear that it can screw up pre-employment drug tests…
The amount is seriously small. In Germany they put great handfuls of the stuff into their cakes without any ill effects. And the type of poppy they came from would not be opium poppies so the active ingredients would be very low.
Mythbusters found that you could eat four poppy bagels and test positive.
It has been proved that poppy seeds can cause a false positive for opium on a drug test. But that does not mean you will feel the effects of opium from eating poppy seeds.
I imagine you would have to eat so many you would be poisoned from something else in the seed before you would feel anything.
