How to care for basil plant in Oklahoma?
I recently got a basil plant that was in a plastic container, from my local grocery store and the directions said full sunlight. SO, does it need to be outside or inside? Can I plant it in a big planter and move it outside for a few hours then move it inside? Do I plant it in the ground? How much do I water it? Please help!! I don’t have GREEN THUMBS!!
Can I plant other herbs inside the planter with it?

The sunlight here is just TOO drastic for anything. Photosynthesis stops at 98 degrees…we’ve been having temps up around 115…and we’ve not even gotten to AUGUST yet. Everything is pretty much DEAD but trying to make a come back with the rain we’ve gotten in the last few days – I wouldn’t chance it. Summer isn’t over yet. If I were you I’d re-pot it and keep it inside in or near a window where it can get a good amount of sun for part of the day. And yes. You can plant ANY herbs in the same planter. Just make it big enough with rich enough soil so the roots have room to stretch out!
Keep the soil moist but not saturated. You can figure out if it’s got too much water a couple hours after you’ve watered it – can you push down on the soil and water squeeze out?? That’s too much. Or too little if you can pick some of the soil up and it’s dust. Keep it so the soil is ‘bouncy but not soaked’.
Basil loves heat and water. It does tend to droop if it get too hot with too little water. When you cut your basil to use it, cut it right above where there are two more stems. The more you cut your basil to use it the better it grows. If you don’t use it much, it will get flowers on it. You should pinch those off. Basil is a delicate herb, and bruises easily. I like to keep mine in a pot by itself.
Basil thrives in full sun as long as it has consistent water. You can plant it in the ground outside if you have a space for it, but it is a very delicate herb when it comes to cold weather. If you want to keep your basil year-round, plant it in a pot. You can put the pot outside for some sun and then bring it back in if you want, there is nothing wrong with that.
The best thing about basil is that it loves to be used. The more you cut it back, the more it will grow for you. So when you want to use some of your leave, don’t just pick the leaves off, cut the stem, leaving about three sets of leaves below it.
Do not let your basil flower. If it begins to flower the leaves will get bitter, it will bolt and then it will die off.
