How can you tell the difference between them before thy flower? Need help recognizing the herbs I am trying to grow!

try take a little piece and squish it then smell it, or try taste it
Fennel smells like licorice, dill smells like, well, dill. The fennel stems are crispier too, but the smell will tell you.
