I have a drink recipe that calls for 1 tsp. whole allspice. They didn’t have it at the grocery store?

Can I substitute ground allspice? Should I use a 1 tsp. of ground allspice as well? Or more or less?

How can you measure 1 tsp. of whole allspice? They must mean 1 tps. of ground allspice. In the spice aisle.

I don’t know why the recipe would call for whole allspice. Whole allspice is ground first. So it is the same as ground allspice except its not ground yet. So yes you can use ground allspice.

The ground stuff will make the drink gritty.
You need to try another store. The whole ones are in pickling spice…..but getting a whole tsp would be a pain!

Whole allspice is not really uncommon…

I suspect that the drink requires whole allspice because it will just flavor the drink, not overwhelm it. You may be required to strain the drink before you serve it.

When a drink calls for whole cinnamon, ground simply will not do.

Try another store. Maybe you have a spice store in your city. Stores that sell Indian and Asian foods should have allspice.

if you are sure it’s 1 tsp allspice, then I would suggest you heat up the beverage to dissolve all the spice. I have some allspice but have no idea what form it is in whole.
