If you have taco seasoning mix do you still have to add spices like cumin, salt, pepper to the beef?

Ok, im making tacos and i bought a taco seasoning mix, and was wondering if i still need to add salt or other spices to the beef before i put the seasoning mix in.
The ingredients in the mix are: onion, potato starch, salt, and spices such as chili, pepper, oregano, cumin)paprika, and sugar.
So what do you suggest?

i think u should put some…verrry slightly though, you don’t want to season it too much. go fo rit!

I never add anything to the mix although sometimes I use more than is called for. Say I have 1 lb of ground beef, instead of adding just 1 little packet of seasoning, I’ll and 1 and 1/2 packets.

Good luck with homemade tacos! One of my fav quick meals to make :)

I don’t usually add anything to it, They pretty much cover all the seasonings.

No the mix is all you need. I do add some garlic powder, onion powder and pepper to my meat while browning in though.

You don’t have to add anything, but you can–it’s all a matter of personal taste. I like to add some cayenne pepper, because I like hot food, and I live in ohio, where nobody knows what hot means. :(

I wouldn’t add any salt–most mixes come pretty salty already.

Nope it’s all in there. Just mix it in, simmer and enjoy!

THe seasoning mix is enough. That is made so that you don’t have to go with all the other seasoning. You can add your own stuff if there is a certain flavor you are looking for.

a dash of hot sauce

NO! but you can season the meat LIGHTLY with garlic powder and onion powder (even though the taco package contains it) before you put the taco seasoning in. It just gives it a little extra yummm!

I would only add extra spices if you have more beef than what the mix pkg calls for.

no you dont have to cause if you read the ingretiants on the packet it includes all of the stuff but i per say you like alot of something you can add that with the mix.

nothing elese is needed

It is all about how you like your food, I know my brother browns beef then adds a wet taco seasoning, folllowed by his own recipy of spices, but for me just the simple seasonings in a bag will do, so test the one seasoning then experement till you find what is good for you. And as for the style of suggested ingredients, it depends on if your going for a mexican style, or a purta ricanian style, try looking up lots of diffrent recipies and find the one that looks sounds best to you.

Add the seasoning packet and water to the meat and taste it – you’ll probably find it to be just right. If it needs more cumin or chili powder, feel free to add some – you can’t ruin it.

I usually add extra cumin since I really like the flavor of it, never extra salt, I think it’s too salty as it is.

We just use the mix as is. Cooking really is a matter of taste and preference. When I add extra spices to mixes I always taste as I go, And remember cooking will increase the flavor so do it in very small amounts

Nope. All the necessary spices and ingredients are in the mix package.

Mashed potato’s –

I know it sounds crazy but make a cup of mashed potato’s for each pound of beef your using. Brown the meat, add the taco mix and water, add a pinch of “cayenne pepper” to spice it up. Then prepair the instant mashed potato’s like you were going to eat them. When the potato’s are done stir them into the taco meat.

Don’t tell anyone your secret – Everyone will love your taco’s.
