oregano, onions, garlic, parsley, cinnamon
add:
black pepper, chili powder, basil, paprika
garlic, black pepper, sazon, onions, season salt. This are basic things that can be used for various meals. And you can just sprinkle them on food as well (except onions lol but u can cut it up for something like a burger or salad)
black peppercorn because its like pepper and you need pepper, onions don’t really count as spices, never even heard of butter powder, i would buy cinnamon sticks for desserts. bay leaf for sauces, allspice for desserts too, thyme i think is for fish and sauces, sage eh, oregano is for seafood i think, i don’t eat sea food so no, don’t use majoram much, celantro i can get of a asian market really cheap so don’t really need that on the spice racket
i would choose peppercorns, cinnamon sticks, bay leaf, rosemary(very good on steaks) parsley, allspice, thyme and i think that is all for now
k well, first off, the following are much better fresh so dont buy them dry unless u feel the need:
cilantro
onions
parsley
and onions dont belong in a spice rack unless ur talkn onion powder or somthn. i would buy butter powder, the real thing is much better.
dont leave out vanilla extract, cocoa powder, cumin, curry, mustard (ground), ya thats all i got…and dont forget
sugar, salt, pepper, the basics. lol.
i suggest these for a first time pantry. maybe not all of them. it’s actually best to buy them as you need them.
kosher salt
coarse black peppercorns to grind
chili powder
ground cumin
grill seasoning
paprika
smoked sweet paprika
whole nutmeg
curry paste or powder
ground coriander
poultry seasoning
bay leaves
red pepper flakes
dried oregano
dried thyme
ground cinnamon
ground allspice
cayenne pepper
italian seasoning
mrs. dash or spike
Cilantro isn’t an herb that I would say is a must, onions and garlic aren’t herbs or spices, you’ll never use butter powder, you might consider nutmeg, sea salt and rosemary.
salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, lemon pepper, seasoned salt, oregano, Italian seasoning, Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg
these are the ones I use most
Even dry spices need to be replaced frequently, so I got rid of my spice rack years ago. Instead, I opt for purchasing spices in small quantities from the bulk bin at the health food store, on an as-needed basis. In other words, when I’m planning a menu, or making a spice mixture like a dry rub for steaks, etc.
Not only does your food taste better because your spices are always fresh, but you’ll save money and never be tempted not to toss an out-dated spice.
Cilantro-Buy this fresh
I would buy:
Oregano
Thyme
Black peppercorns
Dried Minced Onions
GARLIC GARLIC GARLIC (my favorite, I put it on most things) Garlic Salt, Minced Dried Garlic, Fresh garlic to keep in the fridge
Cinnamon
Bay leaves
Parsley
Cayenne Pepper
Others that I like and you might consider:
Red Pepper Flakes (great on Pizza and other dishes for a kick)
Chili Powder (comes in very handy, and pops up in recipes often)
Basil (used often in Italian dishes)
Dill (buy this fresh when needed for best results, my mother-in-law tops off her potato dishes with it)
