Is it true that celery has negative calories?

I read that it takes more energy to digest celery than it provides. Does this mean that it would help my diet if I ate a lot of celery?

Help your diet if you actually ate fruits and vegtables in general.

A group of my friends last year went an entire day just eating celery. I guess it was an experiment, but they recall always feeling hungry; never fully satisfied. i don’t know about “negative” calories, but i believe celery has zero calories. I don’t recommend you eat nothing but celery, like my friends did, (even though that was just a day experiment) but there’s not doubt that it’s good for you and snacking on some instead of granola bars and cookies (like i do) should help if you are hoping to diet a little.

It’s true. I think lettuce and watermelon do the same thing.

It’s true. Celery has almost no calories, and the energy you spend chewing and digesting is more than you consume. Lettuce is the same.

However, if you eat a lot of celery in an attempt to lose weight it’s not good for you. It is also very low in nutrients, you will feel hungry all the time, you will be tired and you’ll probably get the runs, further depleting your body. By not providing any calories it doesn’t provide any energy to your body. As part of a sensible, balanced diet it’s fine – use it to bulk up soups and sauces or as a snack but don’t live off it. You’ll end up sick. And then when you start eating normal foods again your body will react by holding on to more calories and you’ll gain weight faster than normal, and possibly more than you lost.

False. The thermic effect of food does cause your body to burn up calories as it processes meals, snacks, and beverages. But this process accounts for anywhere from 0 to 30% of the calories you eat (protein, for example, takes more calories to digest than fat or carbohydrates; see p. 86). A medium-size rib of celery has only about 6 calories; its TEF is approximately half a calorie. In reality, “negative calorie foods” are nothing more than wishful thinking

I always wondered this, so I looked it up. It has 6 calories but only burns 0.5 by eaing them. This is from WebMD which is the most reliable source I found on this topic.

What you read is true. It is a good idea to have celery in your diet but is not a good idea to eat “a lot” of it. You need to have other veggies in your diet too. Celery is a good diet food though.

Yes, as does a wide array of fruits and vegetables.

Eating celery day in and day out will grow tiring, and a balanced diet requires other elements including protein … so keep that in mind.

um, it obviously couldn’t hurt, but it doesn’t have nutritional value so its kinda pointless, but makes a good snack when you are “mouth hungry”

Actually, you don’t have to diet per se to lose weight, the only method that really showed results for me is wu-yi tea, it can be checked out in the resource box underneath, they have a limited number of free trials remaining, it has been highlighted in Fox News and USA Today. I melted away 25 pounds, it really does produce success!

Umm, you need to eat more tham one thing or you wont get all of the vitamins and stuff you need. Here’s a list of foods that could help :)
hope this helps.
