Is there a danger of adding too much grass clippings to my pepper plants?

I have wanted to add grass clippings as mulch to my pepper plants, but I was worried if I did too much I would put too much nitrogen in the soil. Is there much of a danger of this? I would like to continue to use grass clippings every few weeks for the rest of the summer to keep the weeds down. Is that a good idea with pepper plants?

It shouldn’t be problem especially if you’re worried about nitrogen overdose. In fact when plant material breaks down especially woody mulches like sawdust for example, it uses up nitrogen first before it can release the nitrogen. But the worms will be coming up to eat grass and leave you some nice castings full of goodies fro your peppers. The grass clippings will not only help with your soil’s texture, and nutrition but it will keep the moisture in addition to holding down the weeds.

You obviously have good gardening instincts! Have fun!

Yes there is a danger, but you don’t have to worry about it.

One, your plant will use nitorgen at a natural rate. Two, it will take a long time for all the nitrogen from your glass clippings to decompose into the soil.

Respectable use of nature.
