Is this spice licorice? or could it be something else? ?
just a few details. my cousin gave me a bag of spice. he said it’s good for stomach discomfort, and to make a tea out of it, but “don’t boil” it.
i’m almost out of the spice, so i’m trying to identify it so i could buy more, as it’s pretty tasty, and maybe good for digestion or whatever.
describing it: it looks like finely ground coffee.
smells: slightly sweet
tastes: sort of like licorice, but a little nicer (no bitterness at all).
when he first gave it to me, he was saying maybe it’s anise (he doesn’t speak english that well)
could this be anise, or licorice or something completely different? mace?
it looks like iced tea when you run it through the coffee maker.
thanks in advance.

it could be anise, but anise isn’t as sweet as licorice
The only ones I can think of are fennel, ani seeds, tarragon, and anise.
These all smell and taste a little like licorice.
Most likely it is fenugreek
It’s probably fenugreek
I bet it’s fennel. Several sources recommend fennel for tummy troubles. Could be anise too. Fennel tea has very dark grains.
