Replacement for Cardamom in Chicken Shawarma?
I finally have found all the ingredients I need to make This recipe… except cardamom because it’s really too expensive for me right now. I’m trying to decide if I should just leave it out or find something to replace it with. The other spices are as follows:
1 tablespoon ground coriander
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon ground cardamom (need a replacement for)
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 tablespoon grill seasoning, recommended
Any ideas?
I don’t have time to order anything on line… I’ve got Tahini and Greek Yogart that go bad kind of fast. I need to make the stuff tonight. I think I might just leave it out. It’s good to know about those sites though, I’ll use them in the future!

You can use cloves or allspice in place of cardamom
I would leave it out, as u have other spices it shouldnt make a big difference to the taste.

There is NO replacement for cardamon. I would wait until I could afford to buy it however, let me make this suggestion … goes to Penzer’s, a supplier of herbs and spices. Penzer’s sell their products in different size quantities and you can buy as little or as much as you would like. I live on a fixed income and if it were not for Penzers I’d not be able to afford many of the species as, you state, are very expensive.
Try chinese five spice; looks a little different, but effects the flavor of the dish similarly. Good luck.
There really isn’t a good replacement for Cardamom, however, that being said, go to this website: . Penzey’s is a great herb and spice store that does mail order as well. They have Ground Guatemalan Cardamom in a 1.2 oz. 1/4 cup jar for only $3.49. That’s pretty reasonable. Good luck!
