1. The red ink passes through the cellophane from a high concentration to a lower one. Its molecules are small enough to go through along with the water molecules. The water column will decrease in height as the water leaves. It would increase since the diffusion of water will increase from the beaker into the air as the temperature increases.

Set up a series of hypertonic solutions measuring different dilutions of sucrose and keep the strips (same length and weight) in them for the same amount of time and weigh them.

3. Active transport requires the movement of materials from a low concentration to one of a higher one. This is like swimming up a hill. Energy is needed by the cell to move these molecules or they will not make it up.
