Special menu for Birthday? What do you think?

It’s my fiance’s birthday, and I really want to go all out on a special dinner for him. There will be four of us (his best friend & the friend’s date).

Here is my menu – let me know what you think! Any suggestions would be great – or changes you think I should make. :-) I’m kind of going with a cross-European theme.

Starter

Blini with Sevruga caviar and ice-cold lemon vodka

Main

Wild-Caught Alaskan Sockeye Salmon in pastry crust with wild rice and leek-shittake pilaf and dill beurre blanc sauce.

Dessert

Marscapone-filled cake with sherried berries and stawberry and lemon gelato served with champagne.

I think I need one more course – where, and what?

Thanks in advance!!
One good thing (lifesaver!) is that much of this can be made ahead, earlier in the day. The salmon packets can be prepared, and then just have to be baked. Ditto on the cake and blini.

It sounds good! If you really want one more course, perhaps a salad course or a vegetable course before the main? Or a cheese and fruit course after the main with coffee to relax before dessert.

mmmmmm sounds really good but you have a lot of alchohol on the menu make sure all your guests like alchohol and if they all do your menu is perfect!! have a good dinner :)

My God, I haven’t stopped salivating …. you sound like you know what you’re doing.
I’m such an expert, but how about a really nice salad with the main course
Edit* Oh, I meant to write I’m not such an expert

Wow. You’re way above my level of cooking. But it sounds to die for, yum!!!!

I would add a salad- field greens with a balsamic vinagrette. Perhaps with some sauteed sliced pears, walnuts and blue cheese

something before the starter.. like some sort of cracker with something on it.. not to much though.. so they dont get full before the meal starts.. Everything sounds good though.

Three course meal is fine.
I like the sound of the dessert and the main, but not really a fan of the starter. I’m not a fan of either of those items, but it’s not me that has to eat it.

wow that’s kool one main course for what?? maybe you could try a small snack table with cheeses fondue crackers tea different things like that !

Salad – Spring greens with blue cheese, cherries and walnuts with a vinegarette dressing. I think it’s called a Michigan salad?

Soup – Lobster bisque.

A fig salad with feta & basalmic dressing. Serve along side your main.

Quite frankly, if someone made that for me on my birthday, I would enjoy the meal more than any other present. Not only the food but the Vodka – and not just regular Vodka but ice cold lemon Vodka – he will definitely enjoy all the effort you are putting in.

I do not know the recipe but if you want to add a Hawaiian barbecue item, you could find the recipe for Chicken Katsu or Volcano Chicken.

wow! awesome! so awesome i’m thinking of stealing it! love the blini starter! russian cuisine all the way! i dunno, looks like you’re set, no more courses needed. might spoil the loveliness you’ve got going!

That sounds amazing!! I think you have a great menu planned and a lot of work ahead of you! But seeing the look on his face will be great when he is enjoying all of your hard work. It seems like really the only other thing that I would recommend is maybe a side salad. Not something huge because you guys are going to be stuffed after all of that food. But if you are going to have another course I would just make it a salad maybe with a homemade vinaigrette dressing. Good luck I hope that it turns out amazing!!

Sounds nice, though I wouldn’t do the leek shittake pilaf (too strong a flavour to share with salmon) & it’s the same story with gelato. Perhaps you could just do the gelato? The marscapone cake may be a little heavy after having the salmon.

Just check too that you will not have to spend huge amounts of time in the kitchen when you should be sitting down with your fiance & friends.

Anyway thats my opinion, have fun :)

What a great menu!

I would add a salad of baby arugula, haved grape tomatoes and a light dressing of lime and lemon juice, evoo and s&p

Some sort of salad or a green veggie – I am eating a darn taco right now wishing it was that menu!!!

that sounds really mouth watering

I’ll bring a bottle of wine- what time do we eat?
