spice question?

i know nutmeg and allspice are completely different, but i’m malking a pumpkin gooey butter cake, and it called for nutmeg and cinnamon. i’m out of nutmeg, so i used allspice and cinnamonso it would still have a spicy flavor… was that a mistake?

I think that would be fine. Keep some Pumpkin spice in your cupboard you could use that & Cinnamon too.

It will still have a spicy taste. Allspice has nutmeg and other things in it, spices. It will be fine. If you don’t mind a milder more cinnamon taste, you can use just cinnamon.

no problem because you probably used such a small quantity that it won’t effect the flavor that dramatically anyway.

I think that it will turn out just fine!! I would reccomend maybe a little freshly ground star anise also.

NO you did just fine..it might have a more punch to it but it will be delicious .
When you go shopping again pick up some NUTMEG get the WHOLE NUTMEGS they are much fresher you just grate them. Also get some WHOLE CLOVES you can get a small mortar or an electric coffee bean grinder that you only use for grinding spices. The whole CLOVES are great for making mulled apple cider with pieces of orange peel and other ingredients. . I alternate these spices in apple pies and pumpkin pies. I also use GINGER POWDERED this spice gives a tangy touch to any spice recipe. Look for a gingerbread recipe also it uses these spices. Great for a fall or winter day. Not a mistake. Pumpkin desserts (like apple desserts) are good with all manner of spices: allspice, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon are the usual suspects in a pumpkin pie. I like to put a little brandy in my pupkin pies and also I brown sugar.

Also, for future reference the Chinese Five Spice is great with pumpkin or apples.
