What are the best herbs to grow in a shady area?
I have a large strip of garden bed that sits in the shade, and need something to grow there. Herbs are preferable, but anything else comparable will do.
I live in Zone 9 and it is a pretty shady spot. Not much sunshine at all.

Spearmint, maybe rosemary (mine is doing well).
French thyme. They have broader leaves than regular thyme and they smell goood.
Herbs are weeds so depending on where you live just about any herb will grow in shade as long as they get some sun.
I have two huge bushes of Rosemary; one gets a lot of sun and the other gets a lot of shade.
Mint will grow just about anywhere and is a rodent repellant.
If you plant mint in your herb garden, it will literally take over and can make other herbs have a funk.
I learned the hard way to always grow mint in a container or in a bed where I don’t want anything else to grow.
In a real hot climate, basil will grow well in part shade. Straight-up noon sun tends to make basil wilt.
Herbs are weeds so don’t grow them in rich, dense soil. Mixing a bag of sand and mulch into the dirt before planting the herbs works well in my herb garden.
I only use Fish emulsifier for fertilizer (stinky!!) and cedar mulch to keep the bugs out.
I also like to grow catnip and if you use a wire cage, like those for tomato plants, the neighborhood cats can enjoy it but not kill it.
Italian parsley is a good one for almost any kind of sun.
I’d advise against mint unless you eat a lot of it. It grows like a weed and spreads EVERYWHERE!!!
Most of the mints will do well in partial shade
