What are the qualifations for a civilian to carry mace or pepper spray in the state of Texas?

My husband is active duty military and is qualified to carry mace for his job. In order for us to carry it in our vehicle, I would also like to be qualified. I am not sure how the civilian world does their qualifications. Can anyone provide some insight or maybe a website I could visit? Thanks

A concealed carry permit would allow you to carry any legal concealed weapon but I don’t think you strictly need one. The sheriff’s office would know and be able to sign a permit.

Contact a local licensed gun dealer or gun shop and ask them about sales of such items, permits, restrictions, etc. in your neck of the woods.

Not sure if TX new CC law covers mace and pepper spray. Prior to the new law, mace and pepper spray were considered “Prohibited Weapons” under State law and were illegal for all persons except law enforcement officers and some security guards.

The best bet would be to call your local police department or sheriff’s office. They can tell you immediately what the law is, and whether it’s covered by the CC law or not.
