What can I make with my french onion soup?

I have a bunch of cans of french onion soup and have grown tired of eating it alone as soup. Is there anything else I can combine it with or use it for something else?

Use it to season a beef roast in a crock pot, or add to a big pot of Beef Vegetable or Beef Noodle Soup!

French Onion Casserole serves 8

4-6 med/large tender onions, slided
6 oz swiss cheese (can use 12 oz, if you dare!)
1½ cups parmesan
3/4 cup beef bouillon
1/2 cup Dry Sherry
1 box of croutons, plain or flavored
3 Tbsp of butter
2 Tbsp of flour
Dash of pepper (I prefer fresh course ground pepper)

In a large pan, melt butter and on medium heat cook onions unitl tender (and “see through”) Stirring nearly nonstop. Add bouillon, pepper, flour and sherry. Keep stirring until thick and bubbley. Pour in 1 quart casserole dish. Add parm cheese, and swiss cheese then croutons. Bake in oven 350ºF until cheese bubbles, about 15 minutes, serve immediately.

*Variation—I like to layer the swiss cheeese and croutons, so I usually pour half the onions in dish, cover completely with swiss cheese then add layer of croutons, then pour the rest of onions, add, parm, swiss and rest of croutons.

****I often make the day before, and add the top layer of croutons right before baking, and in that case baking at 325ºF for about 40 min. will work.

This is an updated recipe from a similar one my mom used to make. YUM!

Crockpot round steak recipe, with stuffing and cheese.

INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 pounds boneless beef round steak, about 1/2-inch thick
8 ounces fresh sliced mushrooms, or 2 cans (4 ounces each) sliced mushrooms, drained
1 cup coarsely chopped onion
1 (10 3/4 oz) can condensed French onion soup
.
Stuffing:
1 package herb-seasoned stuffing mix, stovetop-type
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella or other good melting cheese
PREPARATION:
Cut round steak into 6 to 8 serving sized pieces. Layer half each of the round steak, mushrooms, and onion in 4 to 5 quart slow cooker; repeat layers. Pour soup over all. Cover; cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours or until beef is tender and no longer pink. In a medium bowl, combine stuffing mix, stuffing seasoning packet, melted butter, and 1/2 cup of the liquid from crockpot; gently stir to mix. Place stuffing over top of ingredients in crockpot. Increase crockpot heat to HIGH; cover and cook for 15 to 20 minutes longer, until stuffing is moist and fluffy. Sprinkle with the cheese. Cover and cook until cheese is melted.
Serves 6.

mix with cooked chicken, mushroom and dash of red wine. simmer on stove top till cooked thru. serve over rice.

Mix it with sour cream and make a dip for crackers.

you can get some roast beef from the deli, and cook it with the onion soup, ladle that over french bread and have a french dip sandwich.

This is the easiest and best tasting side dish ever. It goes really well with roast, pork chops, or a rotisserie chicken. I have taken this recipe to tons of parties for over 7 years and everyone loves it!!!

PREP TIME 5 Min
COOK TIME 1 Hr

INGREDIENTS
1 cup uncooked white rice
1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed French onion soup
1 (10.5 ounce) can beef broth
1/2 cup butter, sliced

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
In a 9×9 inch baking dish combine rice, soup and broth. Place butter slices on top of the mixture.
Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove cover and bake 30 minutes more

You can get a few pieces of thick bread like sourdough. Top that with cheddar cheese on the soup and bake it. A sandwich, crackers, croutons…something that completes the meal.

get a hard bread {round} and hollow it out. add your soup and favorite cheese, and a little chopped onion if you want.

Invite your friends over………Take a large chuck roast, (or a couple of them) lightly dust with flour and brown the meat on all sides. Toss in some cut carrots and a bit of celery. (add some diced parsnips or leeks if you like them) Pour two or three cans of your onion soup over the whole thing. Cover the pot tightly. I usually wrap the top in foil then put on the lid. Slide into a 300 degree oven for 3-5 hours. You can use a crockpot as well, if you have one. Take out the meat, and set aside on a platter. Remove the veggies as well. Mix a bit of cornstarch and water. Bring the pan juices to a boil, stir in the cornstarch mix and gently bring to the boil to thicken. A bowl of rice or egg noodles, a loaf of good bread and you have a fantastic meal for friends. You can also freeze portions to have ready made meals for the future. Good luck!
