Dry Mustard is the seeds, ground mustard are the seeds ground up and the regular stuff is the ground mustard with vinegar and other ingredients added. use what the recipe calls for because you would be adding a liquid instead of a dry ingredient it would throw off the recipe and the flavour is different.

You can buy mustard right now fresh in many stores. It’s usually sold in cut stems, about 2 to 3 feet long, in the produce section.
You can also buy mustard seed, brown or black and they vary in strength and taste.
Ground or dried mustard is just that, ground mustard. It can be used to make prepared mustards, or it can be used in recipes all on it’s own.
Prepared mustard, the yellow, the grey poupon, the deli mustards are all prepared with other ingredients to make a condiment. You can get really creative with mustards and make some really great stuff. Addictive even.
I hope this helps with your question. I will add a recipe or two for homemade mustard. They are easy to make and way tasty.
