What is the difference between “peppermint bon bon” and “mint chocolate chip” ice cream?
I ordered a peppermint bon bon sundae at a place near Boston. The waitress, otherwise extremely good, returned a blank look before saying “We don’t have that flavor.” “You’re out of the green stuff with chocolate chips?” “No, we have ‘mint chip’.”

I would guess that the peppermint is a red/white peppermint flavor, and the mint chocolate chip is generally a green spearmint flavor with chocolate shavings or chips in it.
Mint Chocolate chip ice cream isn’t peppermint flavored, it’s spearmint flavored, with chocolate chips in it. I’ve never heard of “peppermint bon bon” ice cream before.
