What is the origin of the name old spice?

As in the deodorant. It’s all i use and i’d like to know a little more about it.

I heard it was to help “old” people “spice” up their sex life. We all need to get it on sometime don’t we?

The first Old Spice product, a fragrance called Early American Old Spice for women, was introduced in 1937, closely followed by Old Spice for men in 1938. The Old Spice products were manufactured by the Shulton Company that was founded in 1934 by William Lightfoot Schultz.

The first ads had merchant sailors splashing it on after being at sea for awhile, and right before they met up with their ladies who had been waiting for their return from their journeys. ‘Old Spice’ refers to the spices used in the Old World (European countries) to make men smell better upon returning from their travels.

I think it means “Extra Strength Libido Booster.” Spices grow stronger as they age, hence the name “Old Spice.” Remember, you wouldn’t exist if your grandpa hadn’t worn Old Spice. Riiiiiiiiight.
