the apical meristem is the portion of the plant where growth occurs so this would be where mitosis is occurring to calculate the percentage you would count the number of cells in the viewing circle of the microscope that are in prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase and divide it by the total number of cells in the viewing circle times 100
