definitely compost, not sure if u can still get it but n e kind of manure
if u have rich soil you wont need much fertilizer also if u are near a farm ask them and last resort is the home center i know its old school but try library good luck

Best to just start with good old fashioned top soil. Available just about anywhere in 50 pound bags. Then each year just add good natural compost like egg shells, coffee ground, etc.

My neighbors have horses, so I use their manure. Even if you live in the suburbs there are usually a few horse owners that need to get rid of their manure if you just ask.

Ozmacoate, $12 for big bottle at Home Depot/Lowes. It is a slow release fertizler.

I use a 30%mushroom compost as well. Good Luck.

For potted plants I use the miracle grow potting mix for herbs and peppers. For the peppers and other taller potted plants I used the cheapo stick plant food from walmart and have had great success. As far tomatoes in the actual ground we usually add bone meal and blood meal in the dirt a week before planting and had great results

our local zoo offers animal manure for cheap so thats what Im doing this year.
