What type of italian cookie is this?
I just was given some home made ones.
they were very flat and BIG and looked like they were made in a waffle iron with decorative floral designs. they had bits of fennel seed in them and were dusted w. powdered sugar

Sounds like Pizelles. My mother used to make them a few times a year. Delicious!
I think you are thinking of the pizzelle
Yes, pizzelles. And they are made on a pizzelle iron.
I think it is a Pizzelle. They sound very yummy, and my friends really like them. Hopefully I will soon!!
they are pizzelles and you probably ate an anise flavored one (licorice). you can also get lemon ones pretty easily or orange.
