Where can I buy bulk foods and spices in Chicago?
I’m looking for someplace (other than Whole Foods) to buy bulk grains, lentils, spices, beans, nuts, cereals, etc. I know that sometimes indian and other international food markets sell these types of foods at a reasonable price. I’m sure that W Devon Ave would have someplace, but I do not want to brave the traffic without having a good idea of where to go. Does anyone know where I can buy (quality) bulk foods, or perhaps a good international food market (not *too* far from Lakeview) that sells packages of these types of items for a reasonable price?

Is there a Miejer nearby?? A Sam’s Club??
I was going to say Sams Club or Costco.
Ask local chefs. You need a supplier who might not have a store front.
You’re right in thinking that Devon would be the best place to go. I’m assuming that when you say bulk foods, you are not talking about bulk chicken wings like you’d find at Costco. I have been to some Indian and Middle Eastern shops down Devon to buy paneer, lentils, and tea and I know that there are several shops that sell the types of items you are looking for in bulk (many types of lentils, spices, and the like). Unfortunately, I do not remember the names or addresses of any of these shops. The best way to find them is to find a parking spot anywhere you can and walk down Devon. You can usually find parking on the side streets. If you go on a weekend, the area is very busy, but you may be able to find the popular stores just by seeing all of the people coming and going. If all else fails, as you know, there is always Whole Foods.
