Why do the ingredients list not list Spices by name?

I have heard rumors that Spices on the ingredients list are not spices at all. Is spices a broad term used by the FDA to allow unknown harmful and addictive ingredients into our food?Does the FDA really protect us the consumer’s or are they just putting money into the pocket’s of big business?

The FDA does not list herbs and spicies specifically because they only contribute flavor to the final product; they have no nutritional value … and that is what the FDA is most concerned with when it comes to labeling.

The spices are not listed so you can not duplicate something just by knowing the ingredients.

That’s funny, I’ve wondered this myself. The FDA is a US government agency. I’ve heard they accept funding from companies for things other than research. That makes me nervous. Recently, for example, the FDA has approved an antibiotic being injected into meat because the drug company gave them money. This is very dangerous because it can cause people to build immunity to this antibiotic, which may be needed for health problems later.
As for the “Spices” on an product’s lable, I am not sure. I’ve seen (rarely) spices listed separately on lables before, so i’m not sure.
